Lois Marion Maddox, age 90, of White Cloud passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Spectrum Health Services Gerber Memorial in Fremont. She was born on April 14, 1922 in Grand Rapids to Benjamin and Susan (Strickland) Sorenson and married Carl Clinton McGraw Jr. Carl preceded her in death in 1942, serving his country in WWII. She later married George Martz, who also preceded her in death. She later married Harland Joe W. Maddox, who also preceded her in death in 1985. Lois had worked at American Seating in Grand Rapids and was a home maker, raising her twelve children. Lois served on the board at the Newaygo County Commission On Aging for 16 years and received numerous awards for her commitment and years of service. She was also a board member on AARP. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, canning, spending time with her grandchildren, and making annual Christmas ornaments for her family. She was proud of her country and proud of her children and grandchildren who are currently serving and who have served in the Armed Forces. Lois is survived by her children, Jeanne (James) Bayles of White Cloud, Jerome (Marilyn) McGraw of Grand Rapids, Nancy Sorenson of Munising, Robert (Sue) Maddox of Walker, James (Chris) Maddox of Jenison, Andy (Chris) Maddox of Grand Rapids, Thomas (Ann) Maddox of Grandville, Sue Owens of Wayland, Phillip (Beth) Maddox of Walker, and Dede Briggs of Wayland; son-in-law, Robert (Sheryl) Rittenhouse; sister Bernice (Rod) Schmidt of Grand Rapids; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; and companion and friend, Howard Hosman. She was preceded in death by her husbands; son and daughter, Douglas Maddox and JoAnn Rittenhouse; brothers and sister, Lawrence Sorenson, Milton Sorenson, Edward Sorenson, Charles Sorenson, and Elizabeth Gailbreth. Interment will take place at a later time in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids. For a more lasting memorial, friends may consider contributing to the Newaygo County Commission On Aging.
