Lois M. Mathers, age 73 of Newaygo, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a lengthy illness. Lois was born on June 22, 1936 in Saginaw to John and Leona (Dorn) Fahrenbruch. She grew up in Saginaw where she graduated from Arthur Hill High School. She then graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree and teaching certificate and taught in Saginaw County and Waterford School System. She married Maynard Mathers in August 1960 in Saginaw. They moved to the Newaygo area in 1969 from Oakland County. Lois truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her family. She enjoyed family genealogy, sewing, and traveling to Florida during the winter months for many years. She had been active in the Christian Womens Club and the Lutherans Womans Missionary League. Lois was also an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Maynard Mathers of Newaygo; her sons, Craig Mathers of Newaygo; David Mathers of Grand Rapids; Richard (Maria) Mathers of Glenview, Illinois; her grandchildren, Andrew, Megan, Emily, Rachel, Abigail, Christa, and Xavier; her sister, Audrey (Eugene) Fischer of Frankenmuth, Michigan; her brother, John (Barbara) Fahrenbruch of Marshall, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews. VISITATION : Sunday from 2-5pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11am at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont.
