Van Ness, Lois Lois Van Ness, age 93 of Fremont , passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Fountainview Retirement Village in Fremont . Lois was born on January 30, 1911 in Dayton Township , Newaygo County to Charles and Laura (Purcell) Van Ness. She graduated from Western Michigan University and later received her Masters degree in teaching from the University of Michigan . She had been a home economics teacher in Holton, Whitehall , Ithaca and for many years at the Flint Northern School System until her retirement. She was a member of the Newaygo United Church of Christ, an avid U of M fan; enjoyed cooking, sewing and keeping in touch with her nieces and nephews through the years. She is survived by her sister, Norma Jean Petz of Newaygo; nieces and nephews, Jeanne (Bill) Leaver of Newaygo; Steve Petz of Fremont; John (Deede) Petz of Fremont; Mark (Michelle) Petz of Newaygo; Connie (Trevor) Morgan of Naperville, Illinois; Cookie (Lyle) Hotchkiss of SaniBel Island, Florida; Curt (Lynn) Meyer of Florida; many great nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law, Ray Meyer of Florida. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Van Ness; and her sister, Dorothy Meyers. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 6, 2004 from the Newaygo United Church of Christ with Rev. David Wygmans of the Newaygo United Church of Christ presiding with interment in the Newaygo Cemetery .
