Lois Ellen (Thompson) (Kaselau) Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025. Born on Monday, February 10th, 1936, in Trent, Michigan, Lois lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication. Residing in Newaygo, MI, she touched the hearts of many in her community.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of almost 23 years; Todd Johnson; her cherished children, Lori Shavalier and Amy Osborn; and her treasured grandchildren, Elizabeth, Barnabus, Harmony, Micah, Jake, Lacy, Jesse, Kate, Mathew, Elen, Cassie, and Tell. Lois also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, her dear sister Edith (Steve) Elsenheimer, and many fond nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded by her parents, Leo Wesley Thompson and Lola Bell Thompson; her first husband; Ron Kaselau; sons-in-law; Mike Osborn and Paul Shavalier; and siblings; Bill Thompson, Russ Thompson, and Jean Chittenden.
A dedicated professional, Lois served as the Chief Deputy County Clerk of Newaygo County. Her career also included roles as a secretary at Imperial Furniture and Gerber Products. Lois was known for her diligence, intelligence, and commitment in each of her positions. Lois was an avid member of First Baptist Church of Newaygo where she and Todd attended for over the last 20 years. Lois had a multitude of interests and passions. She was an passionate quilter, often sending her creations to countries in need. Her love for gardening was rivaled only by her affection for flowers and hummingbirds. Lois enjoyed traveling to Arizona with Todd each winter and was known for her beautiful singing in church. Her quick wit, sharp mind, and warm sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family kindly requests donations be made to Corewell Health Hospice, reflecting Lois's caring spirit and supportive nature. Visitation will be held at Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont, MI, on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Newaygo, Newaygo, MI, on Friday, April 11th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. A reception honoring Lois's life will take place at the church at 12:00 pm.. Arrangements are entrusted by Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont.
