Lucas A. Mansfield, age 26 of Newaygo, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 near his home in Newaygo. Lucas was born on December 2, 1985 in Grand Rapids to George and Sue (Cookingham) Mansfield and has been a resident of the area since 1993. Lucas graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 2004 and had been active in basketball, football and had been a state finalist in wrestling while at Morley Stanwood. In February 2005, Lucas joined the United States Navy where he served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and during his duties had sailed around the world. Lucas had been a detail technician at Fremont Ford for several years and enjoyed golfing and spending time being an uncle to his nephews. Lucas is survived by his mother, Sue Mansfield of Newaygo; his father, George Mansfield of Newaygo; his sister, Katie (Bill) Spaulding of Newaygo; Corry (Renae) Mansfield of Big Rapids; his nephews, Zachary Spaulding; Izaak Mansfield; Jadan Mansfield; maternal grandparents, Corry & Jeanette Cookingham of Cedar Springs; paternal grandmother, Ethel Ruiz of Wyoming, Michigan; several aunts, uncles, cousins. Lucas was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard E. Mansfield; paternal grandfather, Carlos Ruiz; paternal grandmother, Ginny Mansfield. TIME OF GATHERING : Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel.
