Lucy I. Sutherland, age 86 of Hesperia, passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Lucy was born on November 20, 1922 in Oceana County to John and Chloe (Hartman) McCauley and grew up in the Shelby area. She met and later married Gleason Sutherland on June 20, 1944 in Newfield Township and Gleason preceded her in death on January 1, 1999. Lucy has been a longtime resident of the Hesperia area where she had been a homemaker and had attended the Hesperia Baptist Church. Lucy loved cats, listening to county music and her favorite food was hot dogs. Lucy is survived by her nephews, Forrest (Judy) McCauley of Muskegon; Floyd (Cheryl) McCauley of Muskegon; her sister-in-law, Ethel McCauley of Muskegon; nieces and nephews, Gordon Bills of Hesperia; Robert (Dorothy) Bills of Tennessee; Kathy (Larry) Mock of Fremont; Marian Bills of Hesperia; Wayne (Bonnie) Bills of Hesperia; Garry Bills of Hesperia; Sharon (Perry) Beauford of Hesperia. Lucy was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille St. Amour; her brothers, Frank McCauley; Berthat McCauley; William McCauley. VISITATION : Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 12-2pm at the Hesperia Baptist Church. FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 2pm at the Hesperia Baptist Church.
