Obituary

Lydia Marie Schmidt, passed away on October 9th, 2026. Lydia was born January 26th, 1986, in Shelby, Michigan, to Duanea Cameron and Dan Schmidt. As the eldest child, Lydia stepped naturally into the role of protector and guide, watching over her younger siblings with a devotion that shaped their lives. She nurtured a bond that followed them into adulthood, built on steadfast togetherness, a trust that never wavered, and a joy found in the people we hold closest. In celebrating Lydia, we celebrate the strength of family, the beauty of connection, and the radiant love she carried into every relationship. Together her and siblings formed their own inner Village.

Lydia attended school in Walkerville, Michigan, where small-town life allowed her to grow into her most genuine self, where she embraced every opportunity that came her way, from the high school band, to the simple pleasures she adored. Fishing and going to yard sales with her Grandma Sue, and planning events. After graduating from high school, Lydia attended Baker College, and later attended Stepping Stones, where she achieved her CNA certification. She enjoyed doing diamond painting projects, reading romance novels, the occasional puzzle, and her lifelong love for Tinkerbell and Tweety Bird. She loved spending time with her extended family, and reconnecting during the annual reunions, cookouts, and Christmas Celebrations.

Her greatest joy arrived the day her daughter, Anastazia (Ana) was born. Lydia became a devoted, tender loving mother, always ready with encouragement, a kiss, and a hug. Ana was the center of her world. Whether cheering from the sidelines or watching her daughter discover who she was becoming, Lydia’s pride was boundless.

Lydia was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Aiden Schmidt, and is survived by a family who carries her light forward: her daughter, Ana, her parents Duanea, Cameron, and Dan (Mala) Schmidt, her brothers, Daniel and Andrew Schmidt; and her sisters, Amber (Adam) Schmidt, Becca (Hughston) Thackham, Jennifer Maynard, Simone (Craig) VandenBosh, Felicia Colosky, and her dearest lifelong friend Sammy Hill.

She leaves behind nieces and nephews she adored: Ava, Alayna, Sophia, Sam, and Alex. Each touched by her warmth. She is also loved and remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, a wide circle of family bound not only by blood, but by the affection Lydia so freely shared.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 14th, 2026 at the Crandell Funeral Home, located at 7193 W 48th St, Fremont, MI 49412. Visitation is from 2-3 pm, with the Celebration of Life starting at 3 pm. Lydia’s favorite color was blue. If you can, please wear blue to honor her memory.

A reception will follow the Celebration at the American Legion, 4075 S 198th Ave, Hesperia, MI 49421 beginning at 5 pm to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made for the benefit of Lydia’s daughter, Ana, in loving memory of her mother. These contributions will be placed into a fund established for Ana’s future, including her education, health, extracurricular activities, and other needs as she grows. While the fund is being established should friends and family wish to make donation by check, please make payable to Rebecca Thackham, aunt and overseer of the trust.

Crandell Funeral Home, in Fremont, is in charge of arrangements.
