Obituary

Lynn Robert Wardell, 88, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, in Fremont, Michigan.

Lynn was born on January 11, 1937, in Rochester, New York, to Lynn Addison Wardell and Jane Elizabeth (Timleck) Wardell. From an early age, he was known for his steady character, strong sense of responsibility, and love of learning-qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

On July 30, 1977, Lynn married Janete, his beloved wife and partner in life. Together, they shared many happy years with family and friends, making memories along the way while traveling to national parks, visiting Hard Rock Cafés, and wintering in Key Largo, FL. He is survived by his wife, Janete (Elsenheimer) Wardell; his children, Karen Mendham (Steve), Sue Geatz (Michael), and Jeff Wardell; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

Lynn was preceded in death by his son, Lynn Robert Wardell, Jr.; his great-granddaughter, Faith Lawrence; and his sisters, Elinor Quinn and Beverly Smith. Lynn attended Hanover College, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He spent 37 years working at Gerber Baby Food, retiring as a Quality Control Manager. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his attention to detail and commitment to doing things the right way.

Service to others was an important part of Lynn's life. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and later serving as a Scoutmaster, roles he valued deeply. He was also involved in the Republican Party, believing strongly in civic responsibility. After retiring, he continued giving back by volunteering many hours as a valet at Gerber Memorial Hospital.

Lynn enjoyed keeping his mind active and his schedule full. He was a Grand Life Master bridge player, a member of the Jaycees, a dedicated stamp and coin collector, and loved traveling, camping, hiking and skiing. He found joy in learning, competition and sharing his interests with others.

Lynn will be remembered for his intelligence, dependability, and deep love for his family. He leaves behind a life well lived and memories that will be cherished by those who knew him. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Karen Christensen, the caregivers from Interim Health, the staff at The Cottages at Martin Lake, and the hospice nurses for their compassionate care, and support, which brought comfort and dignity to Lynn in his final days.

A private burial will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Hillside Cemetery, 2110 E. 128th St., Grant, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont. There will also be a visitation held one hour prior to the service.
