Obituary

Madge E. Burnett, age 90 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following many years of coping with dementia and Alzheimers disease. Madge was born on March 21, 1914 in Sweetwater, Tennessee to Samuel Lon and Grace Viola (Beals) Hunt and later married Edward Neal Burnett on June 16, 1940 in Tupelo, Mississippi and celebrated 49 years of marriage together. Edward preceded her in death on October 2, 1989. Madge was a devoted wife and mother and a lifetime homemaker and community volunteer. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Fremont until her health prevented her attendance and participation. She nurtured a lifelong interest in music, art and literature by attending classes and reading and sharing these activities with her friends. Typical of her generation, she was a gentle, kind, gracious and social woman who loved spending time with her family and friends. Her keen sense of humor even lasted into her later days of her Alzheimers disease. Madge is survived by three children: Bonnie (Dale) Olbrich of Apex, North Carolina; Jim (Jacque) Burnett of Apollo Beach, Florida; and Nancy (Peter) Lindner, Fremont, Michigan; five grandchildren, Laura (Tim) Rice of Tucker, Georgia; Eric Olbrich of Lahaina, Hawaii; Greg (Kathryn Daly) Olbrich of Oceanside, California; Kristen Burnett of Roswell, Georgia; Darcie (Michael) Spalsbury of Aiken, South Carolina; one great grandson, Alexander Edward Rice; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Burnett (William) Hardlannert; Harriet Hunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Hunt Harris Wickline and her brother Jacob Tate Hunt. Memorial services were held on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ with Rev. Raymond Dekker presiding. Interment is in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
