Marcia Smalligan, age 86, passed away at her residence at The Brook Assisted Living in Newaygo on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Marcia was born in Canton, Ohio on October 18, 1938 to Clarence and Bernice Osborn. Marcia married David Smalligan on July 27, 1956. David preceded her in death in 2004.

Marcia spent a great deal of her life caring for the elderly at Newaygo Medical Care Facility as an aide, then earned her LPN degree and continued to work until her retirement. After David's passing, she became very active in the Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ and sang in the Newaygo County Community Choir. Marcia loved to read and hike with her neighbor and friend, Linea. She also enjoyed morel mushroom hunting each spring and enjoyed the outdoors.

Marcia is survived by her son Larry (Joan) Smalligan and daughter Susie (Rick) Baker, grandchildren: Christopher, Alicha (Jason) Cribbs, Curtis (Suzie) Smalligan and Christa Smalligan, great grandchildren: Ashten, Hunter, Darby, Leeroy and Marion and one great great grandchild: Colt, sisters in laws: Joyce Osborn, Mary Watson, Jody Smalligan and brother in law: Paul Smalligan and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank Osborn and Bud Osborn, and her husband's parents, Pete and Esther Smalligan.

Services will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 at Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Friends may consider the Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers.  Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home-Fremont Chapel.
