Obituary

Our dear Aunt Margaret died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the age of 95 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont . She was born on December 7, 1907 on the family farm south of Fremont to Nellie (Goeman) and Leonard Smalligan. Her life included faithful membership in the First Christian Reformed Church of Fremont where she had been a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Mary Martha Society. She had worked at Gerber Products Company in Fremont . During her 34 years with Gerber Products, she had been secretary to Charles Gerber and later payroll clerk until her retirement on January 1, 1973. She had been an avid reader until glaucoma claimed most of her sight and enjoyed visits with her family and friends and keeping up on current events. Her 95th birthday party last December was one of her final achievements. She is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Esther Smalligan of Fremont; Lucille Smalligan of Wheaton, Illinois, plus many, many nieces and nephews who were truly blessed to have her in their lives for so many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Leonard Smalligan; her brothers and sisters, George Smalligan, Nelson Smalligan; Peter Smalligan; Leon Smalligan; Joan Deur and Gertrude Smalligan. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 30, 2003 from the First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont with Rev. Al Petroelje and Rev. Eugene Los presiding with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery . Friends may consider the CRWRC for Domestic Tornado Relief for memorial contributions.
