Maria Hutton, age 99 of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Maria was born Maria Leumuller in Austria and at the age of 2 years old, her mother passed away. She worked as a typist for the Magistrate in Austria and when Adolf Hitler invaded and ruled over Austria, she was forced to continue to work as a typist but was never paid for her services. She later met Harvey John Hutton while living in Austria and they were married and moved back to Harvey's home in Muskegon where she assisted in caring for her husband's mother. She moved to the Pellston area where she and her husband, Harvey, owned and operated a motel and she also worked at the Pellston Airport in the janitorial department. She later moved to the Newaygo County area and became a nurse's aid where she worked at The Meadows and later retired from the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Maria was self taught in reading and writing English and was fluent in Austrian and German languages. Maria enjoyed playing Bingo at the nursing home and also enjoyed playing Sorry board game. Maria was known as a spunky and caring individual to her friends.
She is survived by her special adopted family, Fran and Harold Dulin and their family as well as several other close neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey John Hutton and by her son, John Harvey Hutton on March 12, 1991.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel. 231-924-0800
