Marian J. Smith, age 68, of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial. She was born on November 10, 1942, in the Fremont area to Henry and Gertrude (Vredeveld) Derks and married Robert F. Smith on June 9, 1961, in Fremont. Marian taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Marian is survived by her husband, Bob of Fremont; son, Scott (Monica) Smith of Jenison; 3 grandchildren, Aaron, Arissa, and Kennedy; brothers and sisters, Arlene (Harold) Plaisier of Jenison, Gerald (Carol) Derks of Newaygo, Nancy Robinson of Fremont, Bill Derks of Fremont, and Linda (Mike) Deur of Newaygo; and many nieces and nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Max and Ray Derks, and sister, Carol Siersema. A celebration of Marians life will be held at 6PM, on Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont. There will be visitation at the funeral home 2 hours prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
