Marjorie Annette Henderson, age 91 of Suttons Bay, formerly of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Tendercare Health Center of Leelanau in Suttons Bay. Marjorie was born on April 22, 1920 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Thorman and Annie Irene (Royster) White. Annette as she was known to her family, was the eldest of 3 children, Thurman Wendell White, born 3 years later and Merle Edwin Shug 3 years later. Their father, Thurman was born in Woodson, Arkansas, south of Little Rock and their mother Annie Irene was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Annettes brothers both served in the United States Armed Forces and Merle Edwin White is listed as MIA while serving in the United States Air Force. Thurman Wendell and his wife, Sybil (Glover) White, who was a kind and friendly person and is very much missed, both preceded Marjorie Annette in death. Marjorie Annette attended Gabe Meyer Elementary School and Pine Bluff High School and after graduation, attended John Gaston School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1942, Annette married Michael J. Henderson and they had lived in Fremont for many years. Michael preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1997. Marjorie had worked for Michigan Bell Telephone and Ameritech Phone Company as a sales representative for 35 years until her retirement. Marjorie Annette purchased a cottage near Frankfort on beautiful Crystal Lake and enjoyed many wonderful summers at the cottage on Crystal Lake. Annette enjoyed shopping at antique shops, going to the Frankfort Library and theatre in Frankfort and Traverse City. Marjorie Annette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula Neil (Henderson) Stephenson and Robert L. Stephenson of Suttons Bay; nieces and nephews of her brother, Wendell including, Ann (White) Turbeville and her family; Daniel and Minnebeth White and family; Kimberley (White) (Curtis) Holt and family; Nathan and Charity Turbeville; her cousin, Merlin Easterling; lifelong friends of Annette, Kathryn (Atkinson) Carpenter; La-Nelle & James Post; Virgil & Betty Coleman; LaVern & Jake Commer; Betty & Ray Durtche; Valarie, Valen & David Michalski. Cremation has taken place and burial of the cremated remains will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. The family sincerely appreciates and thanks the staff of Tendercare, Health Center of Leelanau and Hospice of Michigan for the loving care given to Marjorie Annette.
