Marlene K. Kolbe-Canniff, age 82 of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Hesperia, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Crestwood Village Assisted Living Center in Mt. Pleasant following a lingering illness with Alzheimer's. Marlene was born on August 24, 1935 to Kenneth V. and Inez Irene (Burkett) Smith and later married Carl Canniff. Carl preceded her in death on May 23, 2005. Marlene had been a secretary at the Patricia St. Clair Elementary School in Hesperia for 31 years until her retirement and was a member of the Hesperia Presbyterian Church. Marlene was an avid reader throughout her lifetime, enjoyed singing in the church choir, community choir and singing at Crestwood Village Assisted Living Center. Marlene had enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing volleyball and had a strong fondness for her cat, Punkin. Marlene is survived by her children, Ken (Kim) Kolbe of Mt. Pleasant; Kaye (Cindy Kulas) Kolbe of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Kelly (Wendy) Kolbe of Angier, North Carolina; step children, Todd (Laura) Canniff of Denver, Colorado; Rod (Wendy) Canniff of Fremont; her grandchildren, Kyler Kolbe, Keaton Kolbe, Danielle Harrington, Michael (Ashley) Burnside, Edward Kolbe; step grandchildren, Jessica (Tyler) Proctor, Jackie (Andy) Carlson, Jocelyn Canniff, Amanda (Matt) Fellows, Caitlyn (Nick) Weidman; her brother and sister, Jerry (Bonnie) Smith of Hesperia and Florida; Valli Jo Smith (Craig Furno) of Hesperia and Arizona; sister-in-law, Ellen Smith of Hesperia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Smith and her brother, Kenneth "Bud" V. Smith.
