Marvel I. Smith, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Marvel was born on October 8, 1932 to Don M. and Lois (Maynard) Dickinson in Denver Township and graduated from Fremont High School in 1951. Marvel married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Smith on July 27, 1951 in the front yard of Ed Fox residence in Aetna. Marvel enjoyed being a homemaker all her life and had also been cashier at Kroger in Fremont and later in Muskegon for several years. Marvel was a long time member of the Faith Baptist Church in Fremont where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. She had enjoyed traveling, listening to music, painting, and quilting. Marvel treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren where she created many memories of camping, playing music, playing games, lots of crafts and painting. Marvel especially enjoyed taking care of Raymond, the love of her life.

Marvel is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Raymond of Fremont; her children, Lois Jean Berthiaume of Midland; Randy (Neva) Smith of Fremont; Melinda (Dave) VanDenBerg of Fremont; her grandchildren, Dominica (Ivar) VanKoten of Virginia; Veronica (Jeff) Constantine of Nunica; Brad (Sarah) Berthiaume of New Limerick, Maine; Rebel (Leslie) Smith of Fremont; Miranda (Mark) Daniels of Ithaca, Michigan; James VanDenBerg of Newaygo; Tabitha Buck of Fremont; Jared (Michele) VanDenBerg of Cedar Springs; 14 great grandchildren; her sisters, Inez Bayle of Hesperia; Norma Jean (Chet) Scott of Fremont; many nieces and nephews. Marvel was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Lois Dickinson; her grandson, Brian Lee Smith; her sister, Donna Bruckner and her brother, Garth Dickinson.

VISITATION : Monday, October 30, 2017 from 12-2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 with FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2pm at the funeral home. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery.
