Tanis, Marvin J. "Marv" Marvin J. Marv Tanis, age 75 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home. Marv was born on November 16, 1934 in Fremont to Edward and Anna (Kloet) Tanis and graduated from Fremont High School 1952. Marv married Betty Landheer on June 12, 1959 in Grant. Marv had been a delivery man for gas and oil and in 1952 opened Tanis Service. Marv owned, and operated Tanis Service until his retirement and sold the business to his son, but continued to work in the garage for several years. Marv enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening and working in the family business. Marv was also a 30 years sponsor of NAs 12 Step Program. He was a member of the Church of the Living Christ in Fremont. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty of Fremont; his children, Allen (Sue) Tanis of Whitewater, Wisconsin; Doug (Kathy) Tanis of Newaygo; Karla (Clint) Palmer of Fremont; Janet (Guillermo) Montoya of White Cloud; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Tanis of Newaygo. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Zoe Storms and his brother, Gerald Tanis. VISITATION : Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 2-4pm at the Church of the Living Christ in Fremont. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 4pm at the Church of the Living Christ. INTERMENT : Sherman Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : American Cancer Society. Grandpa Marv was more like a dad to me, Wayne, and Shawn and we loved him like he was too. I have/will miss him. You rescued us from a hard life and I appreciate you and I miss you. Though I know that I haven't seen you as much as I have wanted to, just know that you have never been far from my mind or my heart. Rest in peace Grandpa! Death is a terrible loss & so very sad. However, it is really a celebration of life. Just know that he is in a better place & most of all no more suffering. This was the first I knew about your husband. You are in my thoughts & prayers. I would have been at the funeral home had I knew before this. Tomorrow is my official retirement date for the Jail.
