Mary Kay Burkle, age 76 of Fremont, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon following a short illness. Mary was born on May 9, 1939 in Fremont to Leo Joe and Kathryn L. (Rosema) Smith and graduated from Fremont High School in 1957. Mary later married Dale W. Burkle on December 6, 1958 in Fremont and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area where she had been a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking. Mary enjoyed spending time at the Burkle property in Irons where she spent much time camping, mushroom hunting, playing cards. Mary enjoyed taking motorcycle trips to the Smokey Mountains, riding in the sand dunes at Silver Lake and had also been an avid roller skater for many years and always had a vegetable garden at her home. Mary especially treasured the time she spent being a grandmother and most recently a great grandmother and spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dale of Fremont; her children, David (Lisa) Burkle of Coopersville; Amy (Bill) Dykehouse of Spring Lake; her grandchildren, Jason (Elisabeth) Burkle; Jessica Burkle; Sara (John) Royer; Katie (Drew) Anson; her great grandchildren, Sophia, Emma, Wyatt, Mason, Jack, and Emma. Mary was preceded in death by her brother, James Smith in 1973.
