Mary Jean Wells, age 87 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025 at her home in Fremont, MI.

Mary was born on February 6, 1938 in Fremont, MI to Harvey & Jennie (Wolters) Dunning and married John Orren Wells on February 6, 1959 in Fremont, MI. John preceded her in death on May 6, 2019. Mary spent most of her life in the Fremont area where she enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. She was a devout Christian who believed in the power of prayer. She also enjoyed sewing and helping out with the family well drilling business. In her younger years, she had fun traveling with her friend Karen Dickinson. Mary also enjoyed planting petunias every year around her entryway and had a special fondness for gladiolus that John would bring her every year. She enjoyed watching birds visit her bird feeders, especially the Red Cardinals and Hummingbirds, along with the many other animals that visited daily. As someone blessed with a long and healthy life, she earned the cherished titles of Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She will also be affectionately remembered by the many she knew as Ma Wells.

Mary is survived by 3 children: son James (Traci) Wells of Ashland, OH, daughter Nancy Wells of Mansfield, OH and son Ronald (Stacey) Wells of Fremont, MI; 6 grandchildren: Alex (Caroline) Wells of Worthington, OH, Brent (Kim) Wells of Delaware, OH, Nick (Kristen) Wells of Delaware, OH, Dan (Sam) Fortune of Morrow ,OH, Aaron Fortune (Jessica Harris) of Bladenesburg, OH, Quinton Heimlich of Mansfield, OH; 2 step-grandchildren: Logan & Drew Brooks of Fremont, MI; 9 great-grandchildren: Nora Wells, Jackson & Aubrey Wells, Calvin & Lincoln Wells, Kennedy Fortune and Aleigha, Keagan & Kiley Fortune; 3 siblings: sister Ruth Lucas of Fremont, MI, sister Jan (Jim) Pell of Jenison, MI, and brother Paul (Vicki) Dunning of Fremont, MI.

Her nearly 60-year presence on a 20-acre lot of God's wondrous creation, shared with her husband, will be sorely missed. It is with grateful hearts, we take comfort in the assurance that she is now with her Creator and will someday be reunited with those who follow and share the same love and devotion for the Lord.
