Obituary

Mary R. Fetterley-Parsons, age 97 of White Cloud, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids following a short illness. Mary was born on October 18, 1913 in Youngstown, Ohio to Thomas B. and Pauline (Svetlak) Rekeny and married Harold Fetterley on August 22, 1942 in Paris, Michigan. Harold preceded her in death on February 4, 1995. Mary later married Colen Parsons on November 25, 2000 at the White Cloud United Methodist Church. Mary graduate from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors of Teaching Degree and taught school in Newaygo and Mecosta County in various one room country schools and later taught at the Grant Public School until her retirement after 35 years of service. Mary was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church, a member of the Newaygo County Retired Teachers Association where she had been treasurer for several years; had been active in United Way in Goodwell Township; had been active in the Friends of the White Cloud Library; had served on the Goodwell Township Board and served as township Treasurer for several years and enjoyed gardening. Mary is survived by her husband, Colen of White Cloud; step children, Janet (Robert) Brooks of Grant; Lorraine Thenikl of Byron Center; Peggy Harper of White Cloud; Bernard (Susan) Parsons of Traverse City; Harold Parsons of Cheboygan; Scott (Nancy) Parsons of White Cloud; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Pauline Hanson of Stanwood; John (Barbara) Rekeny of Big Rapids; Frances Williams of Cadillac; Tom (Beverly) Rekeny of Stanton; Virginia Horgan of Big Rapids; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brother, Michael, who passed away in October 1943 while serving in the US Army; sisters, Anna Harrison and Helene Otto. VISITATION : Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 2pm at the White Cloud United Methodist Church. INTERMENT : Goodwell Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : White Cloud United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Friends of the White Cloud Library.
