Mary Jane Gilleo, age 80 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Mary Jane was born on April 13, 1931 in Mesick, Michigan to Leon M. and Mary L. (Johnson) Finkbiner and later married Lynn Eugene Gilleo on November 6, 1948 in Grand Rapids. Mary has been a resident of the Croton area most of her life and moved permanently to the Croton area in 1978 from Sparta. Mary has been involved in the Croton civic community for many years where she served on and was the chairperson of the Croton Township Board or Appeals and Croton Township Zoning Board. Mary enjoyed flower gardening, painting, remodeling and building and living on the Muskegon River in Croton. Marys greatest love was spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lynn; her children, Linda Gilleo of Comstock Park; Diana Berwald of Sparta; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson including, Kimberly Belile and her children, Kendra, Hayden, Elizabeth; Christine Stedman and her children, Krista and great great grandson, Trysten, Cody and Chase; Cariann Berwald and her daughter, Avery; Gregory (Jennifer) Walenga; Timothy (Sara) McCuaig and sons, Ryan & Travis; Melissa (Jason) Upton and children, Shaeleigh, Shelby, Joshua; Angela Walenga; Chad McCauig; Brandon Sullivan; sister, Kathryn E. (Ed) DuChemin of Newaygo; brothers, Richard (Patricia) Finkbiner of Alameda, California; Robert Louck of Newaygo. She was preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnn McCuaig; her sister, Doris A. Titler and her brother, L. Charles Finkbiner. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 1pm at the Croton American Legion. Interment will take place in the Croton Township Cemetery following her wishes of cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Mary Jane Gilleo Memorial Fund at any Independent Bank to benefit the Hospice of Spectrum Health, National Kidney Foundation, American Legion Post #381, and the American Cancer Society.
