Mary (Slater) Monette, 100, of Brunswick, passed away August 8, 2017 at Fountain View Retirement Village in Fremont. Mary was born on July 1, 1917 to John L. and Mary A. (Schmitt) Slater and married Lyle C. Monette on October 12, 1935 in Brunswick. Lyle preceded her in death in 1991. She was an active, lifelong member of St. Michael Parish in Brunswick. Her dedication to the church included being the treasurer for Altar Society and service in various charitable functions. She managed the Bingo program for 45 years. She was a woman of deep faith. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor. She was known for her beautiful peonies. Mary enjoyed playing cards whenever she could and was a member of several card clubs. Mary owned and operated her own beauty salon in her home. By example, she instilled in her family a strong work ethic and commitment to service. She was especially proud of the educational achievements of her children and grandchildren. Her personal goal was to reach 100 years, which she did achieve. She is survived by six of her children, Lyle Gaylyn Monette of Holton; Pamela (Robert) Lascko of Holton; Felicia (Michael) Williams of Texas; Denise (Gregg) McDaniel of Fremont; Kendra (William) Rogers of Kentucky; Janene Chisek of Mt. Pleasant; and son-in-law Roger Patton of Muskegon. Her legacy includes 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Her two surviving siblings are Helen Sohasky of Muskegon and Martha Saxton of Pontiac. She is preceded in death by her husband Lyle, a daughter Diane Patton, daughter-in-law, Judy Monette her sister, Monica Douville; her 8 brothers, Lawrence, Joe, Ben, John, Louis, Paul, Leo and Charles Slater. VISITATION : Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-7:30 at Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel and 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. ROSARY SERVICES : Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 7:30pm. MASS OF RESURRECTION : Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11am at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brunswick with Fr. Darrell Kempf, Fr. Roc Majalla, and Fr. Peter Schafer presiding. INTERMENT : St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Brunswick. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : St. Michael's Catholic Church Building and Grounds Enrichment Fund or Hospice of Michigan – Fremont.
