Mary Jane Ruthven, age 62, of Kentwood passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at home. She was born on March 2, 1938, to Mary and Henry Sweers in Grand Rapids and married Daniel A. Ruthven on October 10, 1953, in Coopersville. She and her husband owned Dans IGA for 9 years in Fremont and White Cloud. She worked in the floral industry at Molesta Floral, and most recently at Eastern Floral, after moving to Grand Rapids. She was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving husband Daniel A. of Kentwood; daughter Kathy (Tim) Weiden and children Tim (Jeanne Bartlett), Matt (fiance Talitha Van Kampen), and Chris of Fremont; son Dan (Kris) Ruthven and children Amanda, Samantha, and Eric of Fremont; son Dave (Toni) Ruthven and children Michael, Marissa, and Alec of Kentwood; sisters Doris (Harold) Bellows of Plainwell, Alice (Roger) Kramer of Coopersville, Jerry (Hank) Merritt of Kalamazoo; brother Dave (Joyce) Sweers of Lamont; several nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Bob Nederveld and William Sweers. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 16, 2001, at the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Bert Vermeulen officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, the family asks that friends consider the American Cancer Society or Hospice.
