Matthew John Bushen, age 28 of Ithaca, New York, formerly of Fremont, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at the SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse, New York following injuries received in an automobile accident. Matt was born on April 16, 1981 in Fremont to Edward and Kathy (Joling) Bushen and graduated from Fremont High School in 1999. Matt moved to the Ithaca, New York area in 2003 and was a student at the Tompkins Cortland Community College in Ithaca. Matt loved music and nature and enjoyed reading, but his true passion in life was for his son, Eli. Matt is survived by his parents, Ed & Kathy Bushen of Fremont; his son, Elias and Elias mother, Jennifer Murphy of Cicero, New York; his brothers and sister, Bethany Bushen of Grand Rapids; Adam Bushen of Fremont; Jason Bushen of Grand Rapids; paternal grandmother, June Bushen of Fremont; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John & Helen Joling; paternal grandfather, Gerald Bushen; 2 cousins, Chad Vogel and Ross Binnendyk. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 5-8pm at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church 6121 S Fitzgerald Ave. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11am at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church.
