Maurice Lee Land, age 73, of Fremont passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility. He was born on November 8, 1927, in Enfield, Illinois, to Walter Lee and Lizzie (Fields) Land and married Anna Westenfelder on November 22, 1950, in Indiana. He was a veteran of the Korean War and faithful member of the Fremont United Methodist Church. He received his Master Degree in Agriculture and Biology after attending the University of Illinois and Michigan State University. He retired from teaching after a total of 34 years, the last 24 years in Fremont Public Schools. Maurice was a member of the Fremont Lions Club, active in the Audubon Society and Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by his loving wife Anna of Fremont; daughters, Marilyn (Leonard) Painter of Spring Lake and Karen Land (Charles) Edmonson of Ann Arbor; sons, David (Linda) Land of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Brian (Pamela) Land of Grand Haven; seven grandchildren; and sister, Mary (Hubert) Whitsitt of Henderson, Kentucky. Memorial Services were held on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 7:00 p.m., from the Fremont United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Duncan presiding with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Friends are asked to consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Fremont United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or Newaygo Medical Care Facility Alzheimers Unit for a lasting memorial.
