Maxine Steene Johnson, age 55 of White Cloud, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Spectrum Health Kent Community Campus in Grand Rapids. Maxine was born on May 29, 1954 in Gunnison, Mississippi to Levi and Rosie (Jones) Johnson. Maxine moved to the White Cloud area in 1974 to live with her sister, Mrs. Lucille Dukes and enjoyed fishing, collecting dolls and making crafts. She was a member of the White Cloud Church of God in Christ and truly loved her pastor and first lady, Superintendent Robert E. Smith Sr. and Mother Gilda Smith. Maxine is survived locally by her 2 sisters, Lucille Dukes of White Cloud; Dorothy (Rev. Willie) Bettis of White Cloud; and Ira Johnson of White Cloud; her children, Kathy Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; Debbie Ann Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; 2 grandchildren; other sisters and brothers, Thelma Rice of Spottsville, Mississippi; Martha Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; Rosie Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; Alice Mae Smith of Miami, Florida; twin brothers, Samuel Johnson and Sam Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; a host of other relatives, friends and church family. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 20, 2008 at the White Cloud Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Robert E. Smith Sr. presiding with interment in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
