Avery, Mary Lou Mary Lou Avery, age 77 of Cathedral City, California, formerly of Hesperia and Fremont, passed away August 8, 2007 at her home in California. Mary Lou was born on December 26, 1929 in Hesperia, Michigan to George Henry and Cecil (Kolander) LaFever and later married Thornton Avery on September 1, 1970 in Pasadena, California. Thornton preceded her in death in 1980. Mary Lou grew up in the Hesperia area later moved to Fremont where she graduated from Fremont High School in 1947. She started working for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company at the age of 15 as a operator and later became a trainer of operators before she moved to California where she later retired as a District Supervisor for AT & T Communications. She enjoyed quilting. She is survived by her sister, Milly (Bud) Splitstone of Fremont; her nieces and nephews, Robert (Lynda) Splitstone of Lansing; Michael Splitstone of Fremont; Ted (Sue) Splitstone of Fremont; Kim Clayton of Newaygo; Henry LeFever of Billings, Montana; Gisele (David) Harmon of Billings, Montana. She was preceded in death by her brother, George LeFever of Billings, Montana. Memorial Services were held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Rev. Carolin Spragg of the Fremont United Methodist Church presiding with interment in the West Hesperia Cemetery.
