Melissa Kathleen Scott-Yell DeLong passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from a lifelong heart defect. Melissa was born on April 10, 1960, in Muskegon to Harold Maynard and Anita Marie (Inman) Scott. She was the proud mother of Michael Scott (Alicia Baron) Yell, Kevin Robert (Laura Ray) Yell, and a proud grandmother.

Melissa graduated from Fremont High School in 1978, and then graduated from college Summa Cum Laude. She enjoyed owning Little Friends Licensed Day Care for many years. She was formerly the secretary at the Countryside Church of Church of Christ, where she also played piano. Melissa was a freelance writer, working primarily for the Fremont Times Indicator and the Muskegon Chronicle.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Michael Robert Yell, and her parents, Harold Maynard Scott and Anita Marie (Inman) Scott. She is survived by her sons, brother, Steven H. Scott, sister, Tabitha (Derek) Hartger, and grandchildren, Nolyn, Zane, Hunter, and Gracelyn.

There will be a graveside service celebrating Melissa's life in the Spring of 2026 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Fremont.
