Melvin Fredrick Berg, age 95, of Grant passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Melvin was born on March 18, 1922, in White Cloud to Fredrick V. and Ruth (Ackerman) Berg and married Elsie Jane Long on September 14, 1941. Melvin worked at Continental Motors in Muskegon and farmed his property in Grant. He enjoyed swimming, reading, and was a wonderful story teller. He loved his family and spent hours with his grandchildren, making "growth charts" measuring their progress as they grew. Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post #3195 in Muskegon.

Melvin is survived by his children, Daniel (Gloria) Berg of Grand Rapids, Holly (Ed) Haack of Howard City, Diane Tibbs of Muskegon, Rebecca (Noberto Munoz) Berg of Muskegon, and Catherine (Kirk Ford) Berg of Ravenna; 12 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie in 2004; infant sons, Fredrick Berg and Michael Berg; and son-in-law, Mike Tibbs Sr. He was the youngest of his siblings and had outlived all of them.

There will be a time of visitation to honor Melvin's life on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 2 – 4 PM, at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont. Military rites will be given in honor of his service to his Country at 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Melvin to the Lt. Wilbur L.
