Michael A. Converse, age 66 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Mike was born on June 18, 1948 in Hart and grew up and graduated in Lansing. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force, stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California serving in the U.S. and Vietnam (in country) during the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, Mike continued work as a civilian at McClellan Air Base as an electronic technician. Mike married Kyle Merrill on April 12, 1980 in Fremont and has been a resident of the Fremont area since 1983 where he had been a business owner until his retirement. Mike enjoyed many sports including baseball where he played shortstop throughout his lifetime in high school, college, and later in co-ed and mens softball leagues. Mike was also an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States and his passion was auto racing especially Sprint cars. Mike was always competitive in life and in whatever he did. Mike is survived by his wife, Kyle of Fremont; his children, Michael Jeffrey Converse of Fremont; Damon Ray (Ginger) Converse of Fremont; Mikaela Danielle (Jay) Downing of Rockford; Haley Merrill (Jeremy) Parker of Fremont; his grandchildren, Alex, Ashlynn, Lane, Leah, Ariah, Ella, Baylah, Amara, Ronan, and Jax; his mother and stepfather, Jean (Ray) Syers of Fremont; his father, Arthur Converse of Fruitport; his sister, Sheila (Bob) Cregg of Twin Lake; half brothers and sisters, Art Converse; Sally Doucette; David (Shelly) Converse; Ted Converse; Dennis (Trisha) Converse; Jackie Elder; Polly (Tim) Minnerick.
