Michael L. Jonaitis, age 79 of White Cloud, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at his home. Mike was born on October 26, 1944 in White Cloud to George and Stephanie (Folta) Jonaitis and graduated from White Cloud High School in1963. Mike married Elsa Rae Christenson on January 4, 1965 in Newaygo and they have been lifelong residents of the area. Mike joined the United State Marine Corps in 1963 and served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1967. Mike returned to White Cloud and started Jonaitis Excavating in 1971 until he retired and sold the business to his son in 2006. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada for many years. Mike was proud of his military service in the United States Marine Corps and participated in the Memorial Day Observance in White Cloud serving on the military honor guard for many years until his health declined and did not allow him participate. Mike is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elsa Rae his sons, Tony Jonaitis of White Cloud; Marc Jonaitis of White Cloud; his daughter, Cindy (Chris) Straight of Florida; his grandchildren, Caleb and Wyatt Straight; his sisters and brothers, George (Karen) Jonaitis; Joseph (Jane) Jonaitis; Christine (David) Velton; Therese (Don) Aldrich; several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Victoria Jonaitis and his brother, John Jonaitis. VISITATION : Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the White Cloud United Methodist Church 1125 Newell Street White Cloud MI 49349. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the White Cloud United Methodist Church with MILITARY HONORS following funeral services at the church. INTERMENT : Lincoln Township.
