Michael R. Deater, age 61 of White Cloud, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at his home following a valiant fight against cancer. Mike was born on August 5, 1955 in Lansing to Charles A. and Norma Jean (Goff) Deater Jr. and later graduated from Sandusky, Michigan High School. Mike moved to the White Cloud area in 1991 from Bridgeton and married Laureen Paulsen on June 15, 1991 in Fremont. Mike was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a Sgt. in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1979. He had been a Corrections Officer with the Newaygo County Sherriff's Department for 23 ½ years until his retirement on July 14, 2015. Mike was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud; enjoyed farming; raising horses, attending plow days, camping, shooting; had been a member of the Newaygo County Sherriff's Posse for 15 years; and was a 4-H Leader and member of the Mecosta County 4-H Council for several years.

Mike is survived by his wife, Laurie of White Cloud; his sons, William "Billy" Deater, currently serving with the US Navy Seabees in Gulfport, Mississippi; Brandon Deater of White Cloud; Scott Seabrook of Newcomerstown, Ohio; his grandson, Cade Wayne Hooper-Deater; his mother, Norma Deater of White Cloud; his sisters and brothers, Patsy (Ralph) Smiley of Applegate, Michigan; Charles L. Deater Sr. of Michigan; Roxy (Ken) Lattin of Grand Haven, Michigan; Don (Lisa) Deater of Nashville, Tennessee; Cindy (Tony) Blamer of Holton; his sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Gregg (Chris) Paulsen of White Cloud; Mark (Sharon Jordan) Paulsen of White Cloud; Penny (Stan) McCumber of White Cloud; Lucinda Paulsen of Mesick. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Deater Jr. and his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Donna Paulsen.
