Michele Mary Baskin passed away on July 21, 2024 surrounded by her family at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born July 27, 1950 to Robert and Therese 'Joanie' Sarata in Jackson Michigan. She was the oldest of 6 children, a natural born leader. She graduated from Gaylord St. Mary's High School. She continued on to Michigan State University to earn her Bachelor's degree in Education. Michele spent 40 years as a principal, the first 25 in the Catholic school system and the remaining years in charter schools. Throughout her career she positively impacted countless students, parents, staff, and community members. She dedicated decades of service to the Michigan Jaycees, serving as the first female President of the Michigan Senate. She was an excellent motivational speaker and traveled across the country to share her message. She spent 27 beautiful years with her loving, devoted husband Brent. She delighted in spending quality time with her husband and children, watching sports with her sisters and brothers in law playing aggravation and dominos, family days spent at The Smith House with her best friend Ronnie, Jaycee senate events, a good cocktail, Hallmark movies and sharing her excellent sense of humor and wise words of wisdom. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity lives on in the lives of those she impacted. She had a contagious laugh, a heart of gold, and could throw a party like it was her job. She leaves behind her husband Brent, children, grandchildren, sisters and brother in laws, nieces and nephews. The void of her absence will be felt every day.
