Mildred D. Borton, age 80 of Newaygo and formerly of White Cloud, passed away Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Mercy General Health Partners Mercy Campus following a long illness. Mildred was born on October 20, 1927 in East Lansing, Michigan to Henry Matthew and Cora Belle (Zoss) Button and later married Joseph Borton on October 18, 1969 in LeRoy, Michigan. Joseph preceded her in death in 1988. Mildred moved to the White Cloud area from Lansing where she had been a cook in the food service industry and moved to Newaygo in January of 2008. Mildred was a member of the White Cloud Eagles, Aerie Post #4170 in White Cloud, a member of AARP and enjoyed playing Bingo and most recently, playing euchre at the Newaygo V.F.W. Mildred is survived by her children, Cora I. Zitka of Newaygo; Carol A. (Rueben) Weston of Middleville; Allen C. Backstrom of Georgetown Township; David J. (Geneva) Backstrom of Reed City; her step children, JoAnn (Larry) Thorp of Luther, Michigan; Virginia Ginger (Bob) Moutz of Battle Creek; Clarence Borton of Hudsonville, Michigan; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her brother, Henry (Nancy) Button of Big Rapids.
