Mrs. Mildred Jeanette VanderWerp, age 102, went to be with her Lord and Savior August 25, 2003 . Mildred graduated from Fremont High School . She married the love of her life, Donald on June 12, 1930 . in Grandville , Michigan . She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Fremont and an affiliate member of First United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids after moving to Clark Retirement Home in 1982. Mildred was the Chairman and Secretary of World Day of Prayer in Fremont for 50 years. She was a past member of the Womens Planning Committee of Japan International Christian University in Tokyo and a past president of the Michigan House and Senate Club in Lansing . Mildred was a generous supporter of missionaries around the world through World Gospel Mission and numerous Christian charities. She will lovingly be remembered for her kind and generous soul. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Republican Senator Don VanderWerp in 1971 and her parents Gerrit & Dena Hekhuis. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Joan Robach; her grandchildren, Louis (Sue) Robach, Linda Robach, Tim Robach, & Tammy Robach; her great-grandchildren, Nicole (Karl) Wyble, Joseph, Joshua, and Kristyne Robach along with many very special nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends celebrated Mildreds life with her family on Thursday at Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont with funeral services held on Friday at the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bert Vermeulen officiating. Christian burial was offered at Maple Grove Cemetery .
