Morton, Mona F. Mona F. Morton, age 86 of Hesperia, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a long illness. Mona was born on June 6, 1923 in Muskegon to Ewart and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Hart and later married Norman J. Bud Morton on February 27, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bud preceded her in death on October 16, 2001. Mona moved to the Hesperia area from Muskegon in 1983. Mona started work at the Michigan Spring Company and later worked as a waitress and hostess for many years at the House of Flavors and Anchor House in Hesperia. Mona enjoyed crafts, reading, playing bingo, bowling with her sisters in her younger years and going to Club. She also enjoyed canoe, camping trips, traveling and hunting with her husband. She attended the Hesperia United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Donna (Dennis) Basch of Hesperia; Duane (Sandi) Morton of Twin Lake; her grandchildren, Traci (John) Rosenberg; Dennis (Jenny) Basch; Norman (Mary Lou) Morton; Danielle Stone; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Meda Shackleford; Marian Slocum and Phyllis Berg; and by her brother, Ewart Hart. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 2pm at the Hesperia United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Morrison presiding. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association or the Newaygo Medical Care Facility for memorial contributions in memory of Mona.
