Obituary

Myrna L. (Dougan) Eckert, age 70 of Fremont, passed away following a short illness on Monday, February 16, 2015 at her home. Myrna was born on July 10, 1944 in Muskegon and later moved to Sturgis where she graduated from Sturgis High School in 1962. Myrna later graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree and taught in Marshall, Michigan for several years. Myrna met and married Steven Eckert on June 26, 1965 in Sturgis. Mryna moved to the Fremont area in 1970 from Marshall and had worked in the insurance department at Pine Medical for several years until her retirement. Myrna enjoyed playing Mah Jongg, golfing, cooking for her family, was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Klinger Lake. Myrna was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont. Myrna is survived by her husband of 50 years, Steve of Fremont; her children, Steven (Myka) Eckert of Zeeland; Lezli (Joe) Kemme of Fremont; her grandchildren, Zackery and Bailey Baddis of Fremont; Audrey, Abigail, and Jacob Eckert of Zeeland; her brother, Arnold (Betty) Dougan of Fremont; Carolyn Dougan of Sturgis; Sharon (Terry Mishler) Dougan of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. Myrna was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Heykoop in February 19, 2009. VISITATION : Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 2 5pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel (7193 W 48th Street). FUNERAL SERVICES : Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont (680 E Main Street). INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Spectrum Health Foundation for Spectrum Health Hospice.
