Neil Russell Van Agtmael, age 93, of Fremont joined his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Spectrum Health – Gerber Memorial in Fremont. Neil was born on October 14, 1924, in Elbridge Township to Joseph and Julia (Cox) Van Agtmael and married Janet Lee Ortendahl on June 13, 1953. He had been a machine operator at Muskegon Piston Ring until his retirement. Neil was a volunteer driver for the Department of Human Services for over 25 years, loved woodworking, gardening, bowling, and golfing. He was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont, having served as an usher, elder, and officer of the Church. He also faithfully attended bible study. Neil is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; children, David Van Agtmael, Linnea & Tommy Weed, Kristine Van Agtmael, Suzanne Mac Pherson, and Carole Comer Van Agtmael; grandchildren, Sydney & Zach Smith, Emily & Scott Manship, Nathanael & Ashlee Wonnacott, Philip Wonnacott, Erin Curtice, Jamie Huisman, Justin Huisman, Brandon & Amanda Huisman, and Stephanie Van Agtmael; great-grandchildren, Hakeem, Halee, Evan, Celeste, Milla, Jordan, Draven, Macie, Isaac, and Emma; great-great-grandchild, Luna; sister, Ruth Oomen; and sister-in-law, Joyce Carr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; daughter, Sally; and grandchildren, Erica, Chase, and Baylee. VISITATION: Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 6 – 8 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont and on Wednesday from 10 – 11 AM at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont.
