Nelda Bell Powers, age 88 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Nelda was born on January 14, 1921 in Dayton Township to C.L. and Mary S. (Jones) Britton and graduated from Fremont High School in 1940. Nelda has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area where she and her husband Knox had been dairy farmers for many years until they sold their dairy herd and farm in 1980. Nelda was a member of the Tyndall Ladies Aid, had been active in the Farm Bureau Womens group, longtime attendee of the Dayton Center Wesleyan Church and has been a lifelong leader and member of Newaygo County 4-H. Nelda was well known for her maple syrup and maple candy and operated a sugar shack for many years on her farm.

Nelda is survived by her husband of 68 years, Knox of Fremont; her sons, Douglas M. (Mindy) Powers of Fremont; John K. (Opal) Powers of Fremont; Joe (Roni) Powers of Fremont; her grandchildren, Mary Beth (Tom) Giddings; Britt Chapman; Matt (Liz) Powers; Mark Powers; Martha (Won Chae) Matthews; Brandi (Ben) Leach; Shawn Powers; Clare Ann Delgado; Knox Powers; Walker Powers; her great grandchildren, Connor & Katelyn Giddings; Macey & Maxx Powers; Liam & Isobel Matthews; Timothy & Riley Leach; Ellie Powers; Andrew Powers Kendziorski; her sister, Lila Ramey of Fremont; her sister-in-law, Helen Britton of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ann Powers Fox on June 8, 2006; her brother, E.N. Britton on August 31, 1984, and her brother-in-law, Al Ramey on February 20, 2009.

VISITATION : Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel.
