Norma Jean Deater, age 91 of Grant, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the Fountain View Retirement Village in Grant. Norma was born on April 18, 1932 in Lansing to Ralph and Eva (Sherburn) Goff and later married Charles A. Deater Jr. on June 28, 1950 in Grand Rapids. Charles preceded her in death on March 6, 2002. After Chuck's retirement, Norma and Chuck enjoyed traveling and spent their winters in the south and the west states and always came back to Michigan for the summers and eventually settled back in the West Michigan area close to family. Norma had been a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading, camping, and watching the birds at her home. Norma was a member of the Faith Bible Church in White Cloud. Norma is survived by her children, Patsy Smiley of Applegate, Michigan; Charles L. Deater Sr. of Muskegon; Roxy (Ken) Lattin of Grand Haven; Don (Lisa) Deater of Florida; Cindy (Tony) Blamer of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Laurie Deater of White Cloud; 19 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Deater Jr.; her son, Mike Deater; daughter-in-law, Theresa Deater; son-in-law, Ralph Smiley; her granddaughter, Renee Deater; her brothers, Ralph Goff and Frank Goff.
