Norman G. Canniff Norman G. Canniff, age 81 of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, April 7, 2000 at the Raybrook Manor in Grand Rapids. He was born on May 26, 1918 in Denver Township to Harry and Neellie (Garlough) Canniff. He graduated from Fremont High School and had a short course at MSU and farmed with his father until his marriage to Mona Jean (Miller) Canniff on April 18, 1944. He then farmed his own farm in the Brookside School District for 20 years. He also worked as a technician for the Michigan Animal Breeders Co-op in East Lansing for 24 years and then worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier for 16 ½ years. After his retirement, he with his wife, Mona Jean, spent most of their winter months in Florida. On September 21, 1998 they moved to Ests. I, Raybrook Campus, Grand Rapids. He was an active member of the Second Christian Reformed Church for 10 years, Fremont First Baptist for over 40 years and Apopka First Baptist Church in Florida for over 7 years and presently a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. He is survived by his wife, Mona Jean Canniff, along with his four children, Nancy (William) Swaney of Delray Beach, Florida; Ronald (Shirley) Canniff of Naperville, Illinois; Catherine (Danny) Cherpes, of Lyons, Michigan; Mary Jean (Ronald) Dunham of Fremont; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Larry) Geeting of Fremont; brother, Carl Canniff of Fremont; eight grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 nephews and 1 niece. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 12, 2000 from the First Baptist Church in Fremont with Pastors Ken Pierpont, Clyde Afman, and Rev. Richard VanNorman presiding with interment in the Clark Cemetery in Dayton Township. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church air conditioning fund or Hospice of Holland Home, Grand Rapids. Envelopes and arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.
