Norman L. Ochs, age 79 of White Cloud, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Grand Oaks Nursing Center in Baldwin following his battle with cancer. Norm was born on November 20, 1939 in Muskegon to Arnold and Helen (Fuller) Ochs and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School and later graduated from Ferris State College. Norm met and married Jacquelyn Capitano on October 7, 1967 in Muskegon Heights and they moved to the White Cloud area in 1972 from Big Rapids. Norm had been in the land survey profession all his life and after graduation started work for Newaygo Engineering and Survey in 1972 and later purchased the business in 1986 which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2018. Norm was currently the Newaygo County Surveyor, a position he has held for over 40 years. Norm had been a strong advocate for the City of White Cloud for many years where he served on the City of White Cloud DDA and Planning Commission, White Cloud Rotary, and worked on various civic projects throughout the years. Norm was also a strong supporter of the Gerald Ford Council of Boy Scouts, Turkey Federation and Whitetails Unlimited. He was a member of the Society of Professional Surveyors and St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud. Norm also served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Croton American Legion. Norm is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jacquelyn of White Cloud; his sons, Stephen (Tonya) Ochs of White Cloud; Nathan (Gretchen) Ochs of White Cloud; his granddaughter, Sydnee Ochs of White Cloud; his brother, Jerry Ochs of Grand Rapids; his sister, Sally (Jeff) Leinicke of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Norm was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Ochs and his sister, Viola Olmstead.
