Ora H. Laisure, Jr., age 91 of Grant, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility following a short illness. Ora was born on October 24, 1924 in Scottville, Michigan and married Ellen J. Wells on July 4, 1948 in Fremont. Ellen preceded him in death on May 23, 2013. Ora has been a longtime resident of the Grant area where he had been a clerk at the Grant Post Office for 25 years until his retirement and had also worked at the Grant Public Schools during that time. Ora was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II and was a life member of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249. Ora was also a life member of the Royal Arch of Masons #38 and life member of the Blue Lodge. Ora had enjoyed woodworking and gardening and had attended the Grant Community Church. Ora is survived by his children, Roy (Marie) of Grant; Lee of Watertown, Wisconsin; Judy (Scott) of Grant; daughter-in-law, Connie of Wyoming, Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brother, Jack Laisure of Hesperia; his sisters, Gladys Dykman of Fremont; Joyce Rottman of Moline; Donna (Don) Eaton of Newaygo; Dorothy Murphy of Newaygo; and several nieces and nephews. Ora was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; son, Tim; and great-grandson, Parker. A private family service will be held at a later date, with burial in Parkview Cemetery in Grant.
