Orrie Ebenstein, age 88 of White Cloud, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in White Cloud. Orrie was born on April 25, 1931 in Big Rapids to Charles Edward and Elva L. (Gibbs) Ebenstein and moved from Fremont to White Cloud in 1947. Orrie graduated from White Cloud High School in 1949 and married Patricia Gibson on December 2, 1951 in White Cloud. Orrie and Patricia owned and operated DeWitte Cheese Company in White Cloud for many years and then Orrie started work at the White Cloud Public Schools as a bus driver retired as a janitor at the elementary school in White Cloud after 20 years. Orrie was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church. Orrie had been involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 78 years and had served as Scoutmaster in White Cloud for over 30 years during which time he lead 17 expeditions to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Orrie was also a long time member of the White Cloud Rotary Club, had served on the White Cloud City Council, had been a Red Cross Volunteer for over 20 years, had been involved with Newaygo County United Way and had served on many committees, councils and volunteered for numerous community projects and activities in White Cloud. Orrie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia of White Cloud; his son, Ethan (Julie) Ebenstein of Grand Rapids; his grandsons, Trevor and Logan Ebenstein; many nieces and nephews. Orrie was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Ebenstein; sister-in-law, Donita Thwaites; brothers-in-laws, Lynn Gibson and Brian Gibson.
