Oscar E. Parker age 91 of Newaygo, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home following a lingering illness. Oscar was born on May 18, 1922 in Tennessee to William and Addie Parker and later married Nora M. Parker on May 24, 1941 in Russell, Georgia after a 3 year courtship. Oscar and Nora had been married for 72 years until Noras passing on June 7, 2013. Nora and Oscar had lived in the New Boston, Michigan area for 50 years and then retired to Tennessee and eventually moved to Newaygo in 2002. Oscar had been a boiler operator at Marathon Oil Refinery in Detroit for 37 years until his retirement in July 1987. Oscar enjoyed vegtable gardening and spending time with his family. Oscar is survived by his son, Lanny (Bonnie) Parker of Flat Rock; son-in-law, Roger Palmiter of Newaygo; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vickie L. Palmiter on December 11, 2002 and by 4 sisters,Pearl, Lois, Madel, Martha and 2brothers, William and Elliott Memorial Services will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 1pm with a time of visitation from 11-1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with interment in the Newaygo Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice in memory of Oscar.
