Obituary

Flora "Pat" Hitts, age 79, of White Cloud, joined her daughter Jilayne (Hitts) Parks in heaven on August 21, 2018, one day before Jill, 31 years later. Pat was born on October 21, 1938, in Newaygo to William L. and Emma Jane (Tatrow) Culver. Pat (as she preferred to be called) had been a life time resident of Newaygo County and graduated from Newaygo High School in 1957. After graduation, she worked as a receptionist and processed insurance claims at Deur Clinic in Grant. On April 29, 1960, she married Samuel J. Hitts. Pat worked full and then part time at the Clinic for 14 years. While her three daughters were small, Pat also worked selling Avon. In 1977, she was hired as a secretary for the Newaygo County Intermediate School District, working at the Neway Center. Pat worked her way up to Administrative Assistant (Preschool Coordinator). She was awarded the "I Care About Kids Award" while working at Neway Center and retired from the Newaygo Intermediate School District in October of 1998. She enjoyed her "Little Piece of Heaven" on the White River where she spent countless hours gardening and landscaping. She later traveled to Florida in the winters where she spent six months at her "Little Southern Comfort" in New Port Richey. There, she donated her time as park librarian and also volunteered for Hospice. Pat enjoyed many years traveling, white water rafting, kayaking, biking, golfing, and just enjoying life. She especially enjoyed nature and time with her loving family and many special friends; both in Michigan and in Florida. She referred to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her "Buds" as in "Love is a Rose and you are my Buds". She is survived by her children, Pamela (Hitts) Norman of Newaygo and Christine (Gregg) Paulsen of White Cloud; her granddaughters, Samantha (Parks) Wiggers (John), Katie L. Middleton Carlson, Emily Mae Paulsen, and Ashley Marie Morris; grandson, Adam J. Middleton; great-grandchildren, Nikolas Wiggers, Karissa Carlson, Brayden Carlson, Adam J. Middleton II., Mason Morris, Amiya Pennington, and Kaleb Dood. Her daughter Jill, has resided in Heaven since August 22, 1987. Jill was killed in an auto accident at the age of 22, leaving behind many shattered hearts and her 3 ½ year old daughter, Samantha. Jill is now reunited with her Mom (Floie), as Jill fondly called her. After Jill's death, Pat started the first grief support group in Newaygo County "Together in Grief" and wrote poems, newsletters, and held monthly support group meetings at the Neway Center. Pat started the group with the assistance of Carmen Baldus, Pastor Joe Hatter, Helen Botschka; and help with equipment donated from NCCS. Pat wrote a poem for each member of the group and many for Jill. When Hospice came to Michigan, Pat stepped aside and passed on the equipment and supplies to Hospice. Pat's wishes are that her children and grandchildren will enjoy the memories of the many happy times and add new ones as their families grow, knowing that God has a paradise waiting for them all. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 11 AM – 12 noon at the Crandell Funeral Home in White Cloud. Funeral services will follow the visitation at noon with Pastor Ed Snook officiating and interment will be in Big Prairie Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial friends are asked to consider Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care or TrueNorth Community Services. Friends may also consider a college fund for her grandchildren.
