Obituary

Patricia R. Miller, age 88, of Fremont and formerly of Carrollton, a suburb of Dallas, Texas, passed away on December 11, 2013 at her home from Acute Leukemia. Patricia was born in Winona, Minnesota on April 14, 1925 to Lawrence and Juanita (Reed) Lilly and in 1929, with her parents, moved to the Rio Grand Valley in Texas. The family settled in Gonzales, Texas, where Patricia graduated from high school. While visiting her sister in New Orleans, Louisiana, Patricia met James M. Miller and they were later married in 1947, after he served in the Air Force during WWII. Patricia and her husband lived and worked in New Orleans and in 1954 gave birth to their son, David R. Miller. The family later moved to Dallas. Patricia enjoyed her large Texas family as well as writing to her northern family. She was heavily involved with her Church and also worked part-time at several of the major hospitals in the Dallas area as a dietician, managing and catering dinners for the doctors. In 1993, after James passed away, Patricia spent her time concentrated on taking care of her grandson, Dustin Coon. She baby-sat, read Bible-Stories, taught manners, colors, abcs, and drove him to doctor and dentists appointments, and would take him on outings with other children. In 2002, Patricia followed her sons family to Fremont, where coincidentally, she had relatives on the Lilly side of the family (William and Emigail Fisk family). Patricia was always involved in some sort of giving activities. In Texas, she attended to sick Church members and did community work. In Fremont, she volunteered in the Grandmother program and assisted children and teachers in the Fremont Elementary Schools. Also, Patricia fostered several rescue dogs from Lake Haven. After becoming handicapped, Patricia was unable to continue in the Grandmother program, but that did not stop her from volunteering. She volunteered to sit and tear sheets for a Sheet-to-Bandages Ministry (Togo West Africa Ministry) through the Church. Patricia had many hobbies (very creative and artistic), but one of her favorite things to do was to write hand-written-letters to family and friends. She also enjoyed dance lessons, games, charity work, gardening, and painting. Patricia is survived by her son, David (Tangela) Miller of Fremont; grandson, Dustin Coon of Grand Rapids; sisters, Becky Hindman of Texas and Helen Danielson of California; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Patricia will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 6th, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Fremont with Pastor Steve Summerfield officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service at the Church hall. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana. Memorial Contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church. Friends may share memories and condolences online at crandellfh.com.
