Patrick H. "Pat" Lause, age 69, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018, at his farm in Hesperia. Pat was born on September 24, 1948, in Greenville, to Henry and Marie (Nolan) Lause. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughters, Sarah (Adam) Frericks of Fremont, and Samantha Bea Lause at home in Hesperia; granddaughter, Trinity Leigh Frericks of Fremont; sisters, Marie Ann Graff of Fowler, Jean I. McCullough of Jackson, and Catherine S. (Gary) Burdick of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews; and step mother-in-law, Ione Brown of Alanson. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Henry and Marie (Nolan) Lause and his father and mother-in-law Ralph Brown and Beatrice (Mitter) Brown.
Pat attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School for 8 years and graduated from Greenville H.S. in 1966. He participated in athletic events, altar boy and announcing events throughout grade school. He played football and ran track, providing competition for those in starting positions later on, while maintaining his announcing. He started his career with the Michigan Farm Bureau and its affiliate companies in 1967 while he attended Ferris State University and later Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Education in 1975. Pat proudly served in the United States Army, which included a tour of Vietnam near An Khe. Pat was the West Central Michigan Regional Representative for Farm Bureau for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 2010.
Pat worked for several auctioneers in West Michigan ending his time with Beyer Auction of Hesperia. At some time over the last many years, Pat has worked at fairs in Mason, Oceana, Montcalm, Osceola, Mecosta, and Newaygo Counties, helping the youth get the most out of their projects when they brought them for sale was one of his great joys in life.
Pat was a member of the Newaygo County Farm Bureau, N.R.A., Michigan Auctioneer's Association, Hesperia American Legion Post #411, and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served several years on the Newfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals and the Newfield Township Board of Review. Pat was past president of the Michigan Appaloosa Horse Association, was on the board of the Michigan Horse Council, and the Michigan Farm Bureau Equine Advisory Committee.
Visitation: Monday, March 5, from 4 – 8 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont and Tuesday, 10-11 AM prior to the Mass at the Church. Rosary: Monday evening at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Celebratory Mass: 11 AM on Tuesday from Christ The King Catholic Church in Hesperia. Interment: West Hesperia Cemetery.
