Obituary

Patsy Lou Thompson Schondelmayer Long, age 88, of White Cloud, passed away on August 30, 2022. She was born April 23, 1934 in Fremont, Michigan, to Frank and Jessie (Lovell) Thompson. Pat married Richard J. Long in Shelby, Montana, on August 12, 1986. Pat's passion was writing. She was an artist and an author. During her childrearing years she penned the newspaper column P.S. for the White Cloud Eagle, sold several short stories and served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America. In 1976 she earned her bachelor's degree in education, then taught at Jack D. Jones Elementary School in White Cloud, Michigan, until her retirement in 2000. She loved to travel and wintered in Florida for many years, sharing her travels with others. She hosted Bible studies and was a lay speaker and writer for the Methodist Church. After moving to Newaygo Medical Care Facility, she continued to express her love for writing by contributing to their newsletter and competing in spelling bees. Pat is survived by her husband Richard J. Long; her children John F. Schondelmayer, Richard (Sharon) Schondelmayer, Lori (Robert) Secord, Kelly (Wayne) Moore, Terri (Christopher) Feldpausch, and Richard J. Long, Jr.; her sister, Vicky McLean; many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sue (Meredith) Totten and Linda (James) Dougan; brothers-in-law, Meredith Totten and Dick Goosman; and her stepson Randal J. Long. There will be a Celebration of Life for Patsy at 11 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the White Cloud United Methodist Church. There will be a visitation prior to the service at the Church starting at 10 AM. Donations can be made to the Fremont Area Community Foundation in memory of Patsy Long for the White Cloud Community Library Building Fund or the Newaygo County Medical Care Facility Activities Fund.
