Obituary

Paul Robert Johnson, age 86 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont following a long battle with Parkinsons disease and dementia. Paul was born on March 23, 1923 in Fremont to Jesse Elmer and Grace (Bacon) Johnson and was raised by Hattie Bacon. Paul met and later married Maxine Helen Smith on July 2, 1945 in Fremont and Maxine preceded him in death on March 28, 2006. Paul had worked in the direct advertising department at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont for many years until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, Paul continued to work at Pinkerton, the Fremont Times Indicator and D&W in Fremont. Paul was a longtime member of the Fremont Christian Church where he had served as an elder for several years, enjoyed reading and enjoyed tracking statistics for baseball and football. Paul was an avid conservationist, fisherman and hunter in the Michigan outdoors. Paul served in the United States Air Force during World War II where he was a tail gunner on B17 airplanes in the European Theatre. He is survived by his daughters, Mary (Robert) Robillard of St. Petersburg, Florida; Patricia Johnson of Fremont; his niece, Jan (Ric) Burch of LeRoy, Michigan. Memorial services will be held at a later date following his wishes of cremation. Interment will take place in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Friends may consider the ASPCA or any conservation club for memorial contributions in memory of Paul.
